Two tips to being a good shared computer user

Often we may need to use many different computers as we move offices and desks.  If we don't do take a few simple precautions, we can cause our computers to run out of space, and we can end up getting locked out of computers (in a way that is difficult to solve!) 

Here are some tips to being a good shared computer user at the Center:
  1. At a different desk?  Don't use the Outlook desktop application. Instead, log into Web Outlook.  This stops all your mail from being downloaded to that computer!
  2. After using another computer, always make sure to log off!  This will help ensure you don't have issues getting locked out of other computers in the future, and helps to keep the computer from running slowly.

How to add a drop down to a cell in Google sheets

Creating a shared spreadsheet in Google sheets?  One way to make it easy to use and avoid misspellings is to add a drop down to a cell so everyone can select an option instead of typing the info in.     More info on how to create, edit and remove a drop down  here .

How to change default software

When you open files, do they open in a different software than the one you'd like to use?  Sick of links opening in Firefox instead of Google Chrome? You can reset the default software your computer uses to open different types of files or search the web.   To change a default software, just open your Windows menu in the bottom left hand corner of your screen.  Then click on the gear icon to open Settings. Go to "Apps" and then "Default Apps".  Here you can select which software your computer defaults to when you browse the web, look at photos, etc. More info  here .
